In this city that swirls away and away
From me every day the sun rises full
Of hope from behind the tree as if
Nothing matters more than turning up
Getting back on my feet remembering
The first steps taken to thundering cheers
Still the failures of a lifetime queue up with
Questions that cannot be answered simply
How would these journeys have been in
Parallel universes that took other paths
With this same mind of wants and desires?
The next man keeps thinking of the next
Next pleasure, the next train, the next stop
Should we follow him in his endless follies
Follow the restlessness that cannot rest?
The city's hunger cannot be appeased
But I can say enough and leave the table
Lead the mind to its sunset and quiet night.
