Ageing is denial of pleasures
Because the pleasurable has
Been proscribed as unhealthy,
Doctors who cannot guarantee
Wellness even with all those drugs
And abstinence, in frank moments
Admit their knowledge is limited,
Patients must learn the virtues of
Waiting when conditions are chronic
Symptoms recur and medicines
Don't seem to work as they did before
Viruses not visible to the naked eye
Are seen to be getting upgrades that
The body's white armies cannot
Match till after taking a toll
If minds can race with each other not
In finding new arms but in new cures
Simple pleasures can still be indulged
And old age will not be as bleak as this.
