A quiet house

When the toddlers are away at school

You have the house all to yourself

To bring some order back

Where chaos had reigned,

After everything is back

To its rightful place

There is suddenly more space

The rooms look larger

The foot traffic is nonexistent

Silence has tiptoed back

Sits on every sofa quietly

Lies down on the bed

Without unmaking it

Stands before the mirror

Without anyone peering

Over its shoulder

It is not long before

The quiet becomes too quiet

And you want the little devils back

Running around screaming

And taking back the house.
