I reached deep into my sorrow
And found it was the world's
While each one thought
It was uniquely his own
With its singular tints and shades
Not knowing where it was rooted
On cloudy days I heard the kuyil
Sing of its homelessness
Its love shadowed by the need to borrow
Someone else's nest for its brood
The original sin, if it could be called that
Was to disobey even if it meant losing a home
To walk out for the sweet poison of love
To leave the shade and safety
Of an unchanging, unsurprising hell
For the uncertainty and cycles of a lively heaven.
